The company also announced its highest quality smartphone to date, a refurbished Samsung Galaxy S II, for $169. While we do applaud the effort made by FreedomPop to keep prices low, we do have to shake our heads at a press release that announces that the carrier is "giving customers access to the latest smartphones". The Samsung Galaxy S II is nearly three years old. But FreedomPop did add in its release that high-end LTE models are coming.
"With
these new pricing plans we are declaring war on an industry that has
for too long taken advantage of consumers and only widened the digital
divide. We not only offer 12 months of comparable service for the price
of 1 month, but all the billing complexity that frustrates users is
gone. There is no need for an annual contract when the total annual cost
is under $100."-Stephen Stokols, CEO, FreedomPop
Since starting service last October, FreedomPop has signed up nearly half a million people to its beta invite list. The company recently debuted a BYOD plan for those who want to use their own handset.
